Capitol Hill Visits

Personal contact with Congress is critical!

Meeting with members of Congress and their staff is the most important step in advancing a meaningful legislative agenda.

Your Congressional visits allow you to:

  • Provide your lawmakers with important and reliable facts about how an issue will affect their constituents (your member-owners)
  • Speak face-to-face and see what arguments and information are most effective and persuasive
  • Build relationships by personally getting to know your lawmakers and their staff. Remember there is no unimportant staff in a Congressional office; today's staff assistant could be tomorrow's chief of staff or a future member of Congress!

Three ways to set up your visits with Congress:

Option 1 (Recommended): Self-Contact
Contact the offices of your Representatives and Senators offices yourself, which allows you to begin making a personal connection with their staff.

  • Find your elected officials on the right side of NAFCU's Grassroots Center.
  • Make a meeting request with their scheduler and/or financial services legislative assistant. Let them know you're a constituent in town during the dates of Congressional Caucus (September 14-17) wishing to meet with your lawmaker and their staff to discuss credit union issues.
  • You can reach any office through the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-225-3121.
  • The Congressional Caucus program runs in the morning, so we encourage you to schedule your appointments in the afternoon.
  • Please let NAFCU know about any appointments you have scheduled.

Option 2: NAFCU Setup
Indicate you'd like NAFCU to assist in scheduling your Hill visits, during the "General Questions" portion of your online conference registration process.

Option 3NAFCU Onsite Setup
Visit NAFCU staff in the ReSource center onsite at Congressional Caucus to schedule Hill visits. Note: We highly recommend setting up meetings in advance of the event.
